C.R. Vyas Centenary Celebration
Gifted with a powerful but intensely musical voice marked by depth and range. Chintaman Raghunath Vyas, popularly known as Pandit CR Vyas enriched the world of Classical Music in immeasurable ways. Having assimilated the genius of 3 leading khayal gharana (Kirana, Gwalior & Agra) he used this knowledge as the foundation in a bid to fashion a creative exploration of his musical heritage.
His vast knowledge and musicianship made him one of the few exponents of the lesser-known ragas such as Maluha Kedar, Malav, Dev Gandhar, Salang, Ahiri-Lalit, Bageshri ang Chandrakauns, Barathi Todi, and Champak. As a guru, he passed on his knowledge to many aspiring musicians. All these attributes made him an invaluable guru, thinker, composer, performer, and practitioner of music.
He is also known for creating new ragas such as Dhankoni Kalyan, Sanjoyiga, and Shiv Abhogi. His book titled “Raag Sarita” is considered a treasure trove of compositions and serves as an excellent reference material for young students and young performing artistes.
In recognition of his contribution to the world of Indian performing arts, he was honored with several awards like the Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the Tansen Samman, the Maharashtra Bhushan Award, the Ustad Hafiz Ali Khan award, and the Padma Bhushan by the Government of India.
To celebrate his contribution to the world of performing arts, Pandit C.R. Vyas's Centenary Year Celebration event has been organized on Sunday, 11th February 2024, from 3 pm onwards at Chowdiah Memorial Hall, Malleshwaram, Bengaluru.
